***NOTES FROM THE CURRENT HOMEOWNER***
The property is within sight of the two significant marinas at Honey Harbour (2.4 km away), but it is located well away from the main channel. The water crossing to the property is a straight line that is rock and shoal free. It is easy to follow in all weather, early or late in the season. As a target, at night, bright high-lumen lights can be seen from the marinas, shining under the high building. When leaving for the mainland, the lights from the marinas are bright and clear, making for an easy trip.
Honey Harbor has water taxi services, but many do not operate at night.
Anyone looking at island property should ask to be taken to see it at night, making the trip in darkness.
The channel in front of the property leads to a small dead-end bay with minimal traffic, unlike main channels with constant boat traffic.
The property is centrally located for boat trips: North to Parry Sound and the Thirty Thousand Islands, Sans Souci, Point au Baril, Killarney, South to Midland and Penetang, and Port McNichol, East to the Trent Severn Water system (locks and marine railway to Lake Simcoe), West to Beausoleil Island (Georgian Bay Island National Park), Giants Tomb Island, Christian Island, and Collingwood.
It takes only minutes to arrive at the property from the Marinas. Minimal time is lost for Guests or family coming for the day; You can bring them from the marina and then return them to the marina at the end of the visit.
When the ice is safe, it takes only minutes by snowmobile or a short 2.4-kilometer walk. Alternatively, Hovercraft or Scoots/Airboats can travel over ice, snow, and water.
The prevailing wind is from the west, as is the route of most storms. Being on the island’s east side, the property is on the protected side and misses the effect of the wind.
East of the island, the body of water between the island and the marinas, is relatively tiny, and winds from the east have little effect on the water, with no waves of consequence.
In the winter, the water surrounding the property freezes, then thaws like a mill pond in the spring. Because of the small expanse of water, there is no breakup of large pieces of Ice to be thrown around by heavy winds, which could damage docks.
